Any resource from which you gather information for your research paper. Common
SOURCES are books, magazines, or newspapers; there are many other types.
Cited Material/Citation/To
Cite:
Use and documentation of the actual text or original ideas from one of your
SOURCES. Three types: QUOTATIONS (use of the words of your SOURCE), PARAPHRASES,
and SUMMARIES must appear in your paper.

Document:
Giving credit to your sources with an insert note/parenthetical documentation/intext
citation.

Insert Note/Parenthetical
Documentation/Intext Citation (replaces footnotes):
Device by which you document the SOURCE of CITED MATERIAL. Insert
Notes appear in the paper in (. . .). The content directs the reader to
the ENTRY listed on the Works Cited Page
which provides the detailed information about the SOURCE of the CITED MATERIAL.
On this web site we will use the term "Insert Note" predominantly
but keep in mind that your instructor and other reference material on research
papers may use the terms "Parenthetical Documentation," "Intext
Citation," "Parenthetical Citation," or "Insert Note"
interchangeably.

Works Cited Page:
Page that lists all the SOURCES CITED in your paper. This page must be set
up according to very specific rules. Each ENTRY on this page must contain
specific information depending on the the type of SOURCE. This page appears
at the end of your paper.

Source Card:
File card which lists in proper order and form all the information about each
SOURCE that is necessary for completing the WORKS
CITED PAGE correctly. These cards must be numbered; thus you assign a SOURCE
NUMBER.

Note Card:
File card with single note in QUOTATION, PARAPHRASE, or SUMMARY form, taken
from one of your SOURCES.

Plagiarism:
Use of CITED MATERIAL without the required Insert
Notes/ Documentation. (presenting the work and ideas of others as your
own) QUOTATIONS without "...." Technically PLAGIARISM is a federal
offense. Realistically PLAGIARISM will result in a failing grade or can get
you expelled from college or suspended from Norwood High School.
