MVCTC Adult Diploma Program Helps Students Find Hope

07/08/2019

Englewood, OH – Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) is proud of the 67 Ohio Adult Diploma Program (ADP) graduates who received their high school diploma in conjunction with earning certification in a skilled trade on June 27, 2019. The graduates and over 300 family, friends, and staff members were in attendance for the ceremony held in the MVCTC Student Activity Center.

The Ohio ADP is made possible through statewide funding, allowing all instruction, books, and testing provided at no cost to the student.  Ohio ADP offers an alternative for adults age 22 and older to earn a high school diploma and receive an industry credential for an in-demand job upon successful completion of the program.

MVCTC was one of the first providers chosen to pilot this program four years ago, and it has continued to grow and achieve intended outcomes

The June MVCTC graduates from ADP earned certification in areas such as Nurse Aide, Phlebotomy, Welding, Robotics, Culinary, and Hospitality in addition to their high school diploma issued by the Ohio State Board of Education.

The MVCTC program has allowed students that were struggling to make a significant difference in their lives. One June 2019 ADP graduate was temporarily homeless in the early part of their academic journey.  The student worked with the MVCTC Student Advocate, and they were able to secure a job that allowed her to find housing while taking her Phlebotomy course.  She is now graduated and holds a steady job in which she can provide for her family.

Dedicated to providing premier educational choices and advanced employment preparation for youth, adults, and organizations, MVCTC has proudly served the Miami Valley since 1971.
