Clerical Services

Description

The Clerical Services program teaches basic office skills and professional leadership skills. Students in this program learn how an office functions by utilizing computer software, the internet, filing systems, telephone communication, and various business forms. Students also enhance their keyboarding, math, accounting, reading, research, and professional employability skills. Students, who complete the Clerical Services program, may have opportunities to continue on to post-secondary education and/or may be qualified for employment in an introductory office setting.

During the junior of the Clerical Service program, students work on their organizational and time management skills. We stress employability skills and life skills such as personal budgeting, check book balancing, and bank reconciliation. Lab time is spent completing hands-on, real-world simulation packages and office technology applications needed in today's workforce. The Clerical Services senior students work on basic accounting skills. This includes payroll, time sheets, inventory sheets, and account balances. They also work on filing and written office skills. Seniors complete a senior project during the third quarter of the school year, which allows them to enhance their presentation skills as well as report writing, computer knowledge and research skills.

After completing the MVCTC Clerical Services program, students may go on to Sinclair Community College or Edison Community College. They may find job placement in general office areas including; filing, reception, payroll, and shipping and receiving.
