MVCTC Medical Office Management Program Building Industry Partners
Englewood, Ohio – Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Medical Office Management program and Digestive Specialist’s, LLC have created a great partnership that has benefited students, the company, and the community. The Medical Office Management program at MVCTC has had many alumni move on to work in various medical offices in the local community, but it is not every day that five former students end up working in the same company. The five students working for Digestive Specialists include: Allison Hunziker (Northmont 2017), Holly Cooper (Northmont 2017) Savannah (Watkins) Boone (Eaton 2014), Rachel (Knobloch) Babcock (Northmont 2014), and Erica Timmonds (Northmont 2009).
The students maintain various integral roles. Boone is working as a receptionist in the office. She checks in patients, answers phone calls, and manages incoming patients and visitors. Babcock is working in the check-out within the office. She does insurance verification, and she helps answer any patient questions before leaving the office. Timmonds is working as a Medical Assistant. After graduation, she continued her education and obtained her STNA and used both experiences to become a Medical Assistant for Digestive Specialists, LLC. She works with bringing patients back to the patient rooms and getting them prepped to see the doctor.
Cooper stated, “If it wasn't for me stepping out of my comfort zone and attending MVCTC, I would not be experiencing my career here at Digestive Specialists.” Digestive Specialists stated that Holly's experience with MVCTC helped her gain her job position in the scheduling dept. of Digestive specialists, Inc. and feel it helped her prepare to enter the work world right out of school.
Babcock further described the valuable educational work experience, “Going to the MVCTC definitely gave me great connections and support for finding an amazing job at Digestive Specialists.” She gave appreciation to her MVCTC Instructor, Mr. Rusty Sink, for making Medical Office Management engaging, creating valuable work experiences, and being one of the best teachers she has ever had. Her employer went on and stated, “Hiring Rachel from the program at MVCTC made her a better employee as she was familiar with medical language and was more prepared for the 'work world'. She was able to hit the ground running.”
Timmonds elaborated about her choice to come to MVCTC. She stated: “I started the Medical office program my junior year, 2007 and I graduated in 2010. Mr. Sink was an excellent instructor. In the medical office program, I learned, medical terminology, coding, typing, scheduling, filing and lots of other useful skills that I currently use every day at my Job at Digestive Endoscopy Center. I have been working for Digestive Specialists now for four years. The MVCTC Medical Office Management program was the start of a lot of great things for me in my career.”
Mr. Sink discussed the transition of students as they move from students at MVCTC to employees in the local community, "The partnerships that I have with the many facilities around the area are the life blood of my program and keep me wanting to turn out quality students to fulfill the needs of the community.” The Medical Office Management program at MVCTC is designed to give students practical experience on how the administrative section of a medical office works. The MVCTC Medical Office Management students run a simulated medical office to experience scheduling appointments on the computer, maintaining patient records, and corresponding with insurers, patients and other medical facilities.
