MVCTC Students' Voices Heard

Englewood, Ohio – Three Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) students were selected as finalist for the Voice of Democracy Essay contest by VFW Post 5018 in Dayton.  VFW representative, Mr. John Mays, visited MVCTC on Wednesday, October 11th, to recognize the finalists.  First place went to Keara Tellis (Biotechnology student from Huber Heights), second place was Juliette Hite (Medical Office Management student from Northmont), and third place went to Jayvanare Nelloms (Architectural Design student from Trotwood).

According to the VFW website, “Established in 1947, our Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. Each year, nearly 40,000 9-12 grade students from across the country enter to win their share of $2.1 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program. The national first-place winner receives a $30,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school. The 2017-18 theme is ‘American History: Our Hope for the Future’.”

What started almost 50 years ago as the Montgomery County JVS has transformed into the Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC). While the name has changed, the mission remains the same. We are dedicated to providing training for in-demand jobs and college-readiness skills for high school and adult students across Darke, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, and Warren Counties.
