MVCTC SkillsUSA Chapter 3 Meeting November 2018

11/16/2018

Englewood, Ohio - The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) SkillsUSA Chapter 3 held its November meeting on November 6, 2018. The meeting included guest speaker Andy Schutt, Human Resources for Mifin Ridge Inn.

Mr. Schutt shared information about the Bed and Breakfast he works for and what he looks for in hiring someone.  He advised students to, “dress for success, do not come in looking like you just rolled out of bed. Dress like you want the job.”

He also said, “Early is on time, if you are scheduled to come in at 8 and you show up at 7:55, your employer will say, ‘that person isn't good, they aren't their best.’ Then say if you come in at 7:30, ‘they will say ok, getting better but not there yet.’ Come in at 7:15 that is a good employee, they want to be here and they love to be here.”

“Have your goals wake you up, not your alarm clock,” Schutt said “I have not used an alarm clock in seven years, I let my goals wake me up. Know your goals, and make sure you have one likeminded person to help you achieve your goal and you do the same for them and you will achieve your goal!  The friends that drag you down and say, ‘hey don't go to work let’s go out and party,’ look at those people as struggles in your life, and step away from that lifestyle.”
