"MVCTC Aspire Program was there every step of the way. And I will forever be grateful to them".

"The best part of my job as an Aspire instructor is helping my students achieve their goals. In late February, Patricia Petaway joined my class at the Dayton Metro Library main branch. Originally, Patricia thought her only option was to take the GED. Once she learned about the Adult Diploma Program, Patricia set her sights on passing the Work Keys test and taking the Robotics course at MVCTC. Shortly after completing her Robotics certification, Patricia experienced the thrill of walking across the stage to receive her High School Diplo-ma this past June. In doing so, she kept a promise to her son. Read about Patricia's experience in her own words."-Cheryl Anderson, Instructor

I want to start off with a big thanks to the MVCTC Aspire Program for all of the help I received while on the journey to success. I needed a change in my life, and I decided to call MVCTC Adult Education. I was told they offered classes at the Dayton Public Library. I never thought I'd walk away with what I needed to be successful and heal in other areas. I want the new students, the “Class of 2020,” to be encouraged because you are in good hands. This group of people will go over and beyond to meet your needs. Speaking from my own personal experiences, whatever the need was, the MVCTC Aspire Program was there every step of the way. And I will forever be grateful to them.

Twenty-two years ago, I dropped out of school because I was a mother of three and my education did not seem as important due to the bills, stress, family or friends. There was always something that stood in the way of going back to school. September 2018 my son and I promised one another we’d graduate in 2019. Within a month my son passed away, but the MVCTC Aspire Program helped me keep that promise to my son. “WE DID IT!”

When I came to the Aspire Program in February of 2019, I had hopes to graduate, but I was grieving, lost, and did not have a clue of what was next for my family. I was new in town, I did not know anyone, but I was introduced to Mrs. Anderson, and that was the moment my life changed for the better. Mrs. Anderson was able to meet me in my lowest place and take me to higher places. There were days I just wanted to walk away and give up, but they did not let me, there were times they even gave me tissues to wipe away the tears as I said I can't do it.

Class of 2020 and the ones that are still to come-- please trust in the process! Have trust that every person at MVCTC wants you to be successful. They don't believe in leaving anyone behind. I ended up graduating with the class of 2019, and I received a certification in Robotics. I am currently enrolled at Sinclair Community College. Never Give up! -Patricia Petaway, GED Graduate
