MVCTC Culinary Arts Students Demonstrate Skills to Sophomores

12/17/2019

Englewood, Ohio -- The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC)  hosted three days of career exploration to prospective sophomores from their 27 partner school districts. Culinary Arts students demonstrated their knowledge and skills to over 300 interested students.

Culinary Arts students set up various stations that allowed sophomores to experience being in the Culinary Arts program. Sophomores had the chance to enjoy culinary creations including fresh butter, lemon shake-ups, and making pizza from scratch. They also were able to practice knife cutting skills, learn the importance of proper handwashing, and participate in table setting skills and napkin folds. Demonstrations included Garde Manger displays, food science principles and basic cooking methods.

Culinary Arts students operate the in-school, full-service restaurant called the CULINARY CAFE, as part of their lab experience. While the Café is in operation, each student is assigned a workstation in either food production or a dining room service area. The restaurant is open to the public from the surrounding communities and MVCTC staff.  When the Café is open, the menu changes weekly to give students the experience of creating different foods, cuisines, techniques, and methods.
