MVCTC Students Qualify for National Business Professionals of America Contest

Englewood, Ohio -- Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Business Professionals of America (BPA) students qualified at the recent virtual State BPA Contest to participate in the 2021 Virtual National Leadership Conference.

 

MVCTC has 27 students overall participating in Nationals. Two MVCTC students were elected to BPA State Officer Positions for the 2021-2022 school year. Twenty-five students advanced from State Competition with the opportunity to participate in the Virtual National BPA. MVCTC also had two students place first in state contests that do not advance to the national level. 

 

MVCTC Class of 2022 Business Ownership students     Laycie Baker (Miamisburg) and Alexander Shartle (Valley View) were both elected to be Ohio BPA Officers for the next school year. Laycie will be the Ohio BPA Historian, and Alexander will be the Ohio BPA Parliamentarian.

 

MVCTC BPA Students Advancing to National BPA Competition:

 

C++ Programming State contest evaluates the student's knowledge of working with structured designs, algorithms, and OOP methodology using the C++ language. Three MVCTC Computer Coding & Web Applications juniors placed in this contest. Chase Morris (Huber Heights) won 2nd Place in the state! Joshua Barnes (Huber Heights) and Jayden Campbell (New Lebanon) placed in the Top 10 in Ohio.

 

The Broadcast News Production Team contest requires students to create a three-to-five (3-5) minute news broadcast containing two (2) different segments (news stories). The MVCTC junior Sports Management & Marketing Team placed in the Top 10 in the state!  The team consists of members Brooke Calhoun (Tri-County North), Caila Charles (Eaton), Lane Kerby (Tri-County North), and Lauren Lodge (Tri-County North).

 

A contest in the Pilot Phase this year is the Health Administration Leadership/Special Topics event. For this contest, students demonstrate communication skills in securing, arranging, organizing, and presenting information orally on the provided health topic. Medical Office Management junior Lola Drew (Arcanum) won 2nd Place in the state!

 

The ICD-10-CM Medical Diagnostic Coding contest tests the student's knowledge and skills in medical coding.  Medical Office Management junior Montanna Frey (Northmont) and Medical Office Management senior Hailey Hoops (Brookville) both placed in the Top 10 in the state!

 

The Contest Health Insurance & Medical Billing is also in the Pilot Phase. This contest assesses the student's knowledge of insurance verification, prior authorization, insurance claim submission, insurance payment posting, and medical billing operations. Medical Office Management senior Emily Carmean (Northmont) placed in the Top 10 in the state!

 

The Health Administration Procedures contest evaluates the student's knowledge of medical terminology and skills needed to prepare medical documents and function effectively in a medical office. Tests are written using AHDI guidelines and Taber's or Dorland's medical dictionaries. Medical Office Management senior Arianna Idle (West Carrollton) won First Place in the state!

 

The Advanced Spreadsheet Applications contest challenges the student to develop effective solutions to business problems using many of the advanced features within the Microsoft® Excel skill standards.  Computer Repair & Technical Support junior Reed Howell (Vandalia) and Business Ownership senior Yareth Rios (Vandalia) both placed in the Top 10 in the state!

 

The Database Applications contest challenges the student to demonstrate database development skills to include: object creation, data analysis, formula creation, and reporting features used in a variety of database scenarios.  Computer Repair & Technical Support junior Landen Todd (Twin Valley South) placed 2nd in the State!

 

The Network Administration Using Cisco contest requires the student to demonstrate knowledge of fundamental network management tasks in a CISCO® environment.  Computer Networking & Cyber Security senior Alec Dolan (Brookville) placed 1st in the state! Computer Networking & Cyber Security juniors Cayden Bouas (Northmont) and Patton Pierce (Milton Union) both placed in the Top 10 in the state!

 

The Linux Operating System Fundamentals contest requires students to demonstrate their ability in hardware & system configuration, system operation & maintenance, security, automation & scripting, and troubleshooting & diagnostics within the Linux Operating System. Computer Networking & Cyber Security junior

Jacob Fenton (Vandalia) and Computer Networking & Cyber Security senior Aidan Houck (Miamisburg) both place in the Top 10 in the state!

 

The Computer Network Technology contest has students demonstrate knowledge in fundamental networking concepts, including network architecture, standards, topologies, protocols, and security.  Computer Networking & Cyber Security junior Tyus Gibbs (Vandalia) placed 2nd in the state! Computer Networking & Cyber Security junior David Pryor (West Carrollton) placed in the Top 10 in the state!

 

The Banking & Finance contest challenges students to demonstrate and apply fundamental knowledge of the banking industry. This entry-level event tests the contestant's knowledge of bank operations, bank services, loans, credit administration, and customer service. Computer Networking & Cyber Security senior Clay Eikenberry (Franklin Monroe) won 1st Place in the state! Business Ownership junior Parker Bickel (Northmont) won 2nd Place in the state!

 

The Advanced Office Systems & Procedures contest Evaluated advanced skills in-office procedures, records and file management, and document production. Business Ownership junior Kaydence Hodgin (Milton Union) won 1st Place in the state!

 

 Sports Management & Marketing junior Hailey Howard (Troy Christian) placed in the Top 10 in the Interview Skills contest. John Li (Miamisburg), Computer Coding & Web Applications senior, won the Open Contest in Computer Programming Concepts in the state. These two contests do not advance to the National Contest.
