December 2023 Construction Update from Dr. Weldy

12/12/2023

The construction team focused on Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Early Childhood, and Hospitality Services in November and early December. Interior finishes are ongoing throughout all areas and are nearing completion in the spaces above.

In the remainder of the building, almost all areas now have their first coat of paint on the walls, and a few have the second coat. Epoxy flooring in restroom areas has been installed in all but a few bathrooms and the contractors are currently polishing the concrete floors in other areas. The carpet is beginning to be installed in the classroom areas. The ceiling grid is installed in most areas of the building as the work above the ceiling is being completed. Ceiling tiles have been installed in some areas, including hallways, staff rooms, and other non-instructional areas.

Kitchen equipment for the Culinary Arts and Early Childhood programs will be installed starting the second week of December, and electrical, mechanical, and plumbing rough-in and final connections will follow. Bookcases and other cabinetry installation is nearly complete in the Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Early Childhood, and Hospitality Services programs. Science tables and cabinetry are just starting to be installed in the Biotechnology, Health Occupations, Medical Laboratory, Pre-Nursing programs, and Youth Connections. Installation of casework and furniture in office areas will occur after the district returns from holiday break.

The large MVCTC logo located at the main entrance has been installed. There is still masonry that needs to be installed below the lighted logo, which will happen during the holiday break. In addition to the masonry, the holiday break will be a very busy time as the contractors work to finish up any remaining items in the main building and continue working in the last area under construction. The team’s goal is to make a push to complete a vast amount of work while the students and staff are off campus during the holiday break.
