Description
Position Summary
The Mechanic Apprentice / Helper supports Metcon's shop team with basic maintenance and upkeep of company vehicles and equipment. This is an entry-level, learning-focused role suited to a student or early-career individual gaining hands-on mechanical experience. The Apprentice works under the direct supervision of the Equipment Manager or a lead Mechanic and does not perform complex diagnostics or repairs independently.
Core Responsibilities
• Assist with routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, fluid checks, filter changes, and greasing.
• Help inspect vehicles and equipment for obvious wear, damage, or leaks and report findings to a supervisor.
• Clean, organize, and restock the shop, tools, and parts inventory.
• Assist a Mechanic with basic repairs by handing tools, holding parts, and prepping equipment.
• Help load, unload, and move parts or supplies as needed.
• Keep accurate notes on tasks completed for the shop's maintenance records.
• Follow all shop safety rules and wear required personal protective equipment.
• Perform other basic shop duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Competencies
• Willingness to learn basic mechanical and maintenance skills; no prior professional experience required.
• Comfortable using basic hand tools.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions closely.
• Works well with others and asks questions when unsure.
• Able to work in a shop environment with changing tasks.
License / Certification Requirements
• Currently enrolled in (or recently completed) a technical/vocational program, or equivalent interest in the trade.
• Valid Driver's License preferred.
• Willing to follow basic OSHA safety guidance; formal certification not required for this role.
Physical Requirements
• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and move around the shop for the duration of a shift.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds at a time.
• Exposure to shop conditions including noise, dust, and grease.

Pay Range & Benefits
