JOB DESCRIPTION
NURSERY ASSISTANT
Department: Youth Ministries
Classification: Part-time Employee
Reports To: Director of Christian Education and the Pastor
Schedule: All Sundays required, 10:00 a.m. – Noon; special services (Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, etc.), optional additional time on Thursday evenings 6:15 – 8:15 p.m. seasonally during Bible Study evenings
PURPOSE
Ensure the nursery is a secure, nurturing environment where each child will see, hear, and feel the love of God, and parents can feel confident their child will receive the highest quality of care and ministry.
REPORTS TO
Director of Christian Education and the Pastor.
RELATIONSHIPS
• Engages and supports parents and families with infants and toddlers by creating a positive nursery experience for young children and their parents, recognizing that the nursery is often the first place new members and visitors experience FPC.
• Works with the Pastor, the Director of Christian Education, the Christian Education Committee, and volunteers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Create a warm, welcoming, and safe environment for FPC congregation's youngest members, including understanding and demonstrating good health and safety practices for young children and volunteers.
• Using the curriculum provided, share age-appropriate lessons with children.
• Bring children to the sanctuary for Children's Church.
• Maintain accurate records, including child/parent information forms and attendance records.
• Provide age-appropriate care, which includes feeding, changing diapers, escorting to the bathroom, maintaining a safe environment, holding or sitting with children, and cheerfully interacting with children through stories, books, games, and prayer. Universal precautions should always be used while changing diapers and interacting with body fluids.
• Stay until all children are properly secured with their responsible adult.
• Straighten the room and wipe down toys and changing tables before leaving.
• Be polite, friendly, and courteous to all children, parents, and volunteers.
• Submit written notice of any planned absence at least two weeks in advance to the Director of Christian Education or the Pastor. If the absence is unexpected, the Nursery Assistant must notify the Director of Christian Education or the Pastor immediately, at least two hours prior to 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, so that a replacement can be found.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience caring for children between the ages of 0 and 5 years, with the ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities.
• At least 16 years of age.
• Certifications in First Aid and Infant CPR.
• Three successful references.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary: $25 weekly (Sundays), additional $30 (per optional service and seasonal Thursday evenings)
Probationary Period: 90 days
Evaluation: Following the 90-day probationary period and annually thereafter
Background Check: Satisfactory completion of a background check and drug screening will be required
