Banquet Success!

The Twin Valley South FFA Chapter has been a work in progress since 1964. The 2016/2017 Chapter Banquet had a great turnout. We recognised the achievements won by our fellow members. We recognized Allie Hamilton, Maddie Back, and Chyann Kendel for receiving their State Degrees this May. We also recognized the Greenhand and Chapter Degree recipients, and SAE Proficiency awards. The new FFA Officer Team for 2017-18 was also installed:

State Spring CDEs

Members of the FFA are required to participate in at least one CDE each year. CDEs are contest that cover job skills in everything from communications to mechanics. This spring the Equine, General Livestock, and Nature Interpretation teams competed. The teams consist of:

 

Equine- Kaitlynn Crow, Allie Hamilton, Kallen Pitz, and Lauren Todd

General Livestock- Kinsey Crowe, Preston Glander, Brooklyn Harrod, Madison Johnson, and Chyann Kendel

Nature Interpretation- Hayley Back, Faith Brown, Ryan Cline, Nathan Espey, Jordan Glander, and Tommy Schleiger20170318_145801.jpg

 

These teams when to a series of contests in many different parts of Ohio. At districts the Nature Interpretation placed 19th out of 26 schools, Equine placed 25th out of 124 schools, and General Livestock placed 152nd out of 176 others. Overall this year's Spring CDE teams did well. Congratulations for a great season! If anyone is interested in joining one of the teams above let Mrs. Derringer know, we would be glad to have you in contribution.





 

Ag Tour Trip

The Ag Tour Trip is a reward opportunity for students who got a Gold Level Participation award which mean they have acquired 75 or more FFA Points in our point system. Students can receive points for each FFA activity our chapter hold, Chapter FFA Meetings, and Chapter Fun days. This is a way to get the student active and be engaged in the FFA experience. The students who receive Gold get the most out of their experience in their agricultural course. The student that received this award were Haley Back, Austin Baker, Courtney Ballinger, Tazia Blaylock, Seth Burke, Ryan Cline, Kaleb Cornett,Kaitlynn Crow, Nathan Crow, Nathan Espey, Jordan Glander, Preston Glander, Allie Hamilton, Maddie Johnson, Chyann Kendel, Hannah Pemberton, Kallen Pitz, Tommy Schleiger, and Lauren Todd.

 

Congratulations to these wonderful students for their accomplishments!

 

    On Friday, April 7th the majority of the students listed above went on the Ag Tour Trip. This trip included a plethora of enjoyable tours to places that make an impact in agriculture. The group went to Universal Lettering in Van Wert, Rodabaugh Bros. Meats in Pandora, Bittersweet Farms in Whitehouse, The 577 Foundation in Perrysburg, Dinner at Nagoya Hibachi Grill, and  on April 8th to the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. The experience was one to remember. The trip was filled with amazing and informational sites. The members that went on the Ag Tour Trip were:

2017 State FFA Convention

The Ohio State FFA Convention takes place at the Ohio State fair grounds in Columbus. Attending state convention is a wonderful way to meet FFA members from around the state, get new ideas for our chapter, and develop your leadership skills. The convention is on Thursday, May 4th and Friday May 5th. Our chapter will be departing from TVS at 7:30 May 4th. We will stop for breakfast at Der Dutchman, then go on a tour at Barry's Fish Farm before heading to the Ohio Expo Center.  While there we will sit in on all five sessions of convention. The 1st session is Donation Recognition from our chapter through donations our chapter made to Cincinnati Children's Hospital and Ohio FFA Camp Muskingum. The 2nd recognition is for Proficiency Recognition for our graduate member Hayley Flory - in Outdoor Recreation. The 3rd session is also a Proficiency Recognition, for Kaitlynn Crow- Equine Placement. The 4th, Officer book awards for Allie Hamilton and Chyann Kendal, this session will also award Chyann Kendal for an Agriscience Recognition. FInally the 5th session is State degrees, our members Maddy Back, Allie Hamilton, and Chyann Kendal will receive their chains and be awarded by the Ohio State Officer team. We will then arrive back at TVS around 9:30 May 5th. If you are interested or have not paid your fee for attending please get that into Mrs.D ASAP.

 

April Member of the Month

Congratulations to Kallen Pitz! She is a greenhand enrolled in the Agriculture Food and Natural resources class for the 2016 -2017 school year. Kallen has exhibited great potential and interest in FFA. She is well deserving of this honor.
