Ashley Tynes, Firefighter/EMS Class of 2020

09/10/2020

Ashley Tynes, Firefighter/EMS Class of 2020 from Brookville High School, is a PACT-Seaman in the United States Navy.

"I enlisted in the United States military (Navy) between my junior and senior years of high school. In the beginning, I had the job as a CS (a cook), but I wouldn't say I liked cooking or standing around and being patient. So when I went back to MEPS to be shipped out, I was given the job as a PACT.   A PACT stands for a Professional Apprenticeship Career Track.  After a year in the Navy and seeing how all the other jobs work on the ship, I get to pick the job that I want.  PACT is an excellent choice for me because I won't ever be bored, and I will be working with a lot of other jobs to learn which one I want to do for the rest of my career."

"During my junior year at MVCTC, I was ready to be a firefighter, but after a while, I took a step back and realized that there is military blood running through my veins. So I started talking to the US Navy and enlisted. During my senior year at MVCTC,  I had so much support from my teachers, especially Captain Shaw and my other fire instructors.  They all pushed me to succeed, did not give up on me, and helped me achieve my current position. The discipline I learned in the firefighter lab was stressful, but it also helped me be prepared for boot camp. These are the best instructors you could ever have and the best teachers you will ever have. They taught me to put in 100% in everything I do, and that I could find success."
