March 2021 Construction Update from Dr. Weldy

02/26/2021

Winter is slowly passing, and spring is on the horizon. Despite challenges from the pandemic and Mother Nature, the building project has been moving forward. Below you will find the updated construction schedule for the remainder of the project. As always, there is the understanding that any construction project is a fluid process, but I feel confident that these dates should hold true.

As you can see from the chart, the South Wing now has students and staff in the space and utilizing the new facilities. The South Wing contains the following career-technical programs: Agriculture & Livestock Production, Animal Care & Management, Diesel Power Technologies, Heavy Equipment Operator, Natural Resource Management, Retail Agricultural Services, Veterinary Science. The project's greenhouse portion is still under construction, and I hope it will be completed in the next several weeks.  In addition, there are minor elements that still need to be addressed in the South Wing, and those will happen this summer when students and staff members are off campus.

The North Wing is scheduled to be completed this April. The career-technical programs housed in the North Wing will be: Auto Collision, Auto Services, Auto Technology, and Aviation Maintenance. In addition, the district’s Maintenance Department will also now be located in this section of the building. Several areas of the North Wing will be used as temporary academic classroom spaces until the main building spine is complete. Once that happens, the temporary classroom space will become our Firefighter/EMS program and a multi-purpose activity space. In addition, lab space in the North Wing has also been dedicated to a temporary Precision Machining Lab. The Precision Machining program will move into their official lab space when the building spine is completed. They had to be moved to a temporary location so that demolition of the current East Building could take place without interrupting instruction.

Both the North and South Wings will be fully operational when the district starts the 2021-2022 school year.

In the April construction update, I plan to focus on some of those individuals, both current students and alumni, who are working on this important project.
