MVCTC Celebrates Class of 2026 Pre-Nursing Students at Nurse Pinning Ceremony

05/15/2025

The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) proudly honored the Class of 2026 Pre-Nursing students today, May 15, 2025, with a heartfelt Nurse Pinning Ceremony held on the final day of their junior year. This long-standing tradition in the nursing profession signifies the students’ successful completion of their Nurse Aide Training and passing the Ohio Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification program.

The ceremony recognized the dedication and perseverance of these future healthcare professionals as they take a meaningful step forward in a career field that is both in-demand and deeply rooted in compassion and care.

MVCTC Pre-Nursing instructors—Mrs. Emily Powers, Mrs. Ellen Bissey, and Mrs. Tonya Barnett—led the celebration and commended the students for their commitment to the rigorous training and high standards required to succeed in the healthcare field.

The pinning ceremony is a significant milestone in the nursing profession, tracing its roots back to Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. In the 1860s, Nightingale began the tradition of presenting a medal of excellence to her top nursing graduates. Today, the symbolic act of receiving a nursing pin represents the official initiation into the profession and serves as a powerful reminder of the nurse’s pledge to provide ethical and compassionate care.

MVCTC’s Pre-Nursing program equips students with the foundational skills and certifications necessary to begin careers in healthcare or continue their education in nursing and allied health fields. The success of the Class of 2026 in achieving their CNA credentials is a testament to their hard work and the support and guidance of their dedicated instructors.

As the ceremony concluded, students left with not only their pins, but also with a deeper sense of purpose and pride, ready to take the next step toward becoming healthcare professionals who will truly make a difference.
