MVCTC HOSA Officer Attend Conference
Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) junior and senior HOSA Future Health Professionals chapters attended the Southwest Ohio HOSA Fall Leadership Conference in Wilmington, Ohio, on November 15, 2022. Through the conference’s theme, “Breaking Down Barriers,” students learned how to lead and grow HOSA chapters and focus on mental health, a critical healthcare topic. During the morning, officers heard keynote speaker Audrey Holtzman talk about the importance of organ, eye, and tissue donation from Life Center and Donate Life. The students rotated through five workshops following the keynote address, collaborating with HOSA officers from other chapters. Highlights included learning about ending the stigma surrounding mental illnesses from speakers representing the National Alliance on Mental Illness and listening to professors from Mount St. Joseph University discuss how to care for one’s mental well-being. Additionally, students heard from current Ohio HOSA President Avni Patel and Alekhya Kondragunta, who served as a HOSA officer at the international level, on the value of parliamentary procedure and setting goals for one’s chapter. As a result, the officer teams have exciting new ideas to implement in the coming months and grow closer as a team.
