MVCTC Game Programming & Web Applications Program Attends ART+ Gaming Conference

Englewood, Ohio -- The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Game Programming & Web Applications class recently attended Shawnee State University’s 2016 Art + Gaming conference.  The Shawnee Art + Technology Game Conference is devoted to all aspects of gaming, game design, simulation, and immersive technology. The Keynote Speaker was Chris Avellone, one of the leading figures in game design today, speaking on “Lessons Learned in Game Design”.  Students attended various breakout sessions including one by Sean Beeson, award winning music composer.  The breakout sessions included: how to compose music for video games, a workshop on how to motivate players, Motion Capture, 3D printing, and Virtual Reality for Humans.

 

Game Programming & Web Application student Dillon Gore (Dixie High School) stated, “I liked the presentation by Paul Yost on Virtual Reality for Humans.  I felt I learned a lot about the future of VR, and how technology is developing and advancing.”  Preston Foster (Tri-County North), also enjoyed the VR, and added, “I was impressed with how it can be used for in the fields of medicine and construction, and any form of design technology.”  Christian Martin (Northmont High School), enjoyed the tour of the school, and is now considering Shawnee State University as a future college. 

 

Mrs. Goodall, Game Programming & Web Application Instructor, concluded, “I love being able to expose students to future technologies they may one day have the ability to influence.  This visit was an inspirational eye-opener.”

         

The IT field is constantly changing and growing. The workplace will demand that IT professionals be well rounded and diversely trained.  Game Programming & Web Applications provides our students with diversity and a broad range of hands-on software engineering learning opportunities.  The program works to prepare students to make informed decisions about college while training students to enter the workplace.
