MVCTC Instructor, U.S. Army Major, Ellen Bissey shared her military experience at the November FCCLA meeting

Englewood, Ohio - On November 7, 2016, the Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Chapter had their second meeting of the school year.

 

The students from MVCTC’s Culinary Arts, Early Childhood Education, and Hospitality Services programs all met in the school’s Student Activity Center.  During this time, results were shared for the students’ community service project competition.  The different career technical labs competed to bring in the most care package items to be donated to Blue Star Mothers Miami Valley where then the items would then be shipped to overseas troops.

The results were as followed:  

            Fifth Place; Culinary Arts Seniors

            Fourth Place; Hospitality Services

            Third Place; Culinary Arts Juniors

            Second Place; Early Childhood Juniors

First Place; Early Childhood Seniors

 

The meeting also featured guest speaker Ellen Bissey.  Bissey teaches Allied Health at MVCTC.  She also is a Major in the United States Army where she has served as a nurse for 19 and a half years.  Bissey shared with the students about her experiences being deployed, along with some personal pictures.  Culinary Arts student Jeremiah Stockslager shared, “[Mrs. Bissey] was a very good speaker and [she] showed some interesting pictures.” Early Childhood student Kelsey Arden also enjoyed the speaker noting, “I liked [the presentation].  I liked how she showed us lots of pictures.”

 

FCCLA is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private school through grade 12. Everyone is part of a family, and FCCLA is the only national Career and Technical Student Organization with the family as its central focus. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.

 

For over 45-years, MVCTC has been providing career technical education for 27 partner school districts encompassing five counties in Southwest Ohio.  MVCTC is dedicated to providing in-demand workforce training for youth, adults, and organizations in the Miami Valley.
