MVCTC Computer Network Engineering Students Excel in prestigious networking competition

Englewood, Ohio – Fifteen Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Computer Network Engineering students have progressed to round 2 of the prestigious NetRiders competition for Cisco Networking academies.  Fifteen is the maximum number of students which can progress from any single lab; of 1,925 Cisco Labs in the United States and Canada the Miami Valley CTC is the only one to qualify all fifteen students.  Qualifying students competed in one of three divisions of the competition ITE, CCENT, and CCNA.

 

The competitions are composed of online exams that normally take place in one or two rounds and are proctored by a Cisco Networking Academy instructor.  Each round includes a theoretical exam and a practical exam utilizing Cisco Packet Tracer, a simulation program, to resolve a networking dilemma.

 

The CCENT division tests entry level networking skill.  Students progressing in the CCENT division are Dewy Lewis (Butler HS), Tommy Gauvey (Milton Union HS), Austin Bird (Bethel HS), Ethan Browning (Tri-County North HS), Austin Gosnell (Wayne HS).  These five students are in the top 345 in the USA and Canada and among the top 30 in the state of Ohio. 

 

The CCNA division tests associate level networking skill.  Stuents progressing in the CCNA division are Steven Davis (West Carrollton HS), Cody Moore (Eaton HS), Dylan Kemp (Eaton HS), Brandon Davis (West Carrollton HS), Brooke Hilling (Milton Union HS).  These five students are in the 136 in the USA and Canada comprise more than half of the only 9 that achieved this level from the state of Ohio. 

 

The ITE division tests talent in computer construction and maintenance.  Students progressing in the ITE division are James Bucio (West Carrollton HS), Daniel Berry (Brookville HS), Noah McGahee (Butler HS), Billy Henderson (Northmont HS), and Hunter Pyles (Northmont HS).  These five students are in the top 241 in the USA and Canada and among the top 40 in the state of Ohio. 

 

According to the Cisco Networking Academy website, “[The] NetRiders IT skills competitions are a great opportunity for students in the United States and Canada to showcase their networking abilities, learn valuable new IT skills, and gain visibility among talent recruiters in the growing ICT and networking field.”  The fifteen qualifiers from the MVCTC will compete in round 2 of the competition later this month to be ranked among the best of the best in North America.
