Game Programming & Web Applications Program @ MVCTC Working to Make the Home of Tomorrow Smarter and Secure!

11/07/2017

Englewood, Ohio -- From October 3 through January 31, 2018 Senior Game Programming & Web Application students will participate in Sinclair Community College's Hackathon co- sponsored by AT&T.  The Hackathon encourages students to develop home automation and security solutions through application development, virtual reality, augmented reality, or robotics to make today's home smarter and more secure.  This encourages students to solve real problems using skills being learned in class.

For a 12-week period, students will work in small teams investigating technologies such as home security programming, physical monitoring with robotics, child monitoring or senior safety with mobile apps, and Internet of Things technologies.  Students are challenged to develop working prototype models to support their ideas. Students will be coding in a variety of languages including Java and C++.  Game Programming and Web Applications Instructor Melissa Goodall stated, "Last year, we participated in the Miami Valley Teen Coding Challenge, sponsored by AT&T and SCC, and did very well. The students loved the challenge and impressed me with the quality of applications that were produced.  I'm excited to give this year's seniors the same opportunities."

The IT field is constantly changing and growing. The workplace will demand that IT professionals be well rounded and diversely trained. Game Programming & Web Applications provides our students with this diversity and a broad range of hands-on software engineering learning opportunities. It prepares students to make an informed decision about college and also trains students to be ready for the workplace. To find out how you can volunteer to mentor a student team, or for more information, contact Melissa Goodall at 937-854-6605.
