Delta Air Lines partners with MVCTC program

ENGLEWOOD — The Miami Valley Career Technology Center’s Aviation Maintenance Technician program prepares high school students for a career as a certified Federal Aviation Administration Airframe & Powerplant, or A&P, Technician.
For more than 47 years, MVCTC has been an FAA-certified school and testing center for A&P Technicians. The program is regularly inspected by the FAA to ensure compliance with all regulations. As one of only four high schools in the state with this rigorous curriculum, MVCTC is a natural choice as a new partner for Delta Air Lines.
Over the next several years, Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (AMTs) will be in high demand in the airline industry. AMTs keep aircraft in safe flying condition by servicing, repairing and overhauling aircraft and aircraft components while following detailed federal regulations set by the FAA. Like many industries, the aviation industry will be experiencing a shortage of skilled workers as the current workforce retires.
In order to prepare for this hiring need, Delta Air Lines created partnerships with 49 AMT schools across the United States. Delta Tech Ops evaluated these schools and found what they determined met FAA standards as well as Delta’s high principles that exceed industry standards. After site visits and meeting with MVCTC instructors and administrators, Delta announced that MVCTC had been selected as one of the AMT schools they will be partnering with for the 2018-2019 school year.
The partnership with Delta will allow MVCTC to have access to Delta equipment for instruction and will broaden students’ access to the benefits of AMT careers available within the global aviation industry. Delta has a five-year training program for certified AMTs to start their career. Students that successfully complete the MVCTC program may have the opportunity to join the Delta training program and start their career with Delta Air Lines.
MVCTC Senior Aviation Maintenance Technician instructor Eric Bickel said of the partnership, “Pursuing your dream to work for a major airline just out of high school just became a reality for MVCTC Aviation Maintenance students with our new partnership with Delta Airlines.”
While attending MVCTC, students also have the potential to earn college credit at Sinclair and Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU). Thanks to the agreement with ENMU, MVCTC Aviation Maintenance students could graduate high school with their diploma, FAA A&P Certifications, an associate’s degree from ENMU, and a job offer from Delta Airlines.
