MVCTC Students Show their Knowledge at State SkillsUSA Contest

Columbus, Ohio -- Members of the Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) SkillsUSA chapter competed in the Ohio SkillsUSA Contest in Columbus, Ohio on April 24-25, 2018.  The State Contest, located at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, brought together thousands of SkillsUSA students from all over the state to compete in everything from Advertising Design to Welding.

 

The SkillsUSA Ohio championship consists of 81 Technical and Leadership contests. Participants are challenged to complete a project in their area of technical training within a specified time while being scored by a panel of judges from business, industry, and education. Top state qualifiers earn a chance to compete in the SkillsUSA championships in Louisville, KY, in June for national honors.

 

MVCTC students placing at the state level included:

Gold – First Place winners and qualified for Nationals

  • Dental Assistant Opening and Closing Team – Jenna Bridges (Mississinawa Valley), Madelynn Callaham (Bethel), Lucas Gearhart (Brookville), Audra Kirchhofer (New Lebanon), Kelsea Morgan (Huber Heights), Rachel Recker (Carlisle), Josephine Yantis (Brookville)
  • Zachary Grant, Heavy Equipment student form Milton-Union, Heavy Equipment Operator contest
  • Katie McCormick, Graphic Commercial Photography student from Milton-Union, Photography contest
  • Alyssa Maul, Graphic Commercial Art student from Eaton, won the SkillsUSA T-Shirt Design contest. Her shirt will be printed and worn by the Ohio delegation at the Nationals SkillsUSA Conference this summer. 

Silver – Second Place

  • Summer Staiger, Graphic Commercial Art student from Valley View, won 2nd place (silver) in the SkillsUSA State Pin Design contest.

Bronze – Third Place

  • TeamWorks Team – Reagan Schommer (Carpentry/Northmont), Chris Logel (Carpentry/Wayne), Ethan Robertson (HVAC/Vandalia), and Jordan Lockhart (Electrical Trades/Northmont)
  • Christopher Conarroe, Carpentry student from Valley View, Carpentry Contest
  • Trey Cradlebaugh, Aviation Maintenance Technician student from Northmont, Aviation Maintenance contest
  • Kyle Fourman, Heavy Equipment student from Franklin Monroe, Heavy Equipment Operator Contest
  • Courtney Fuller, Graphic Commercial Photography student from Arcanum, Job Skills Demo Open contest
  • Wyatt Nace,  Electrical Trades student from New Lebanon, Telecommunications Cabling contest
  • Noah Rohling, Electrical Trades student from Northmont, Electrical Construction Wiring Contest
