11/02/2018

The Dental Assisting Opening and Closing Ceremony students at The Miami Valley Career Technology Center took home the Gold at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference this past June in Louisville, Kentucky.

To qualify for national competition, the teams must place in the top three in local and regional competitions and take home first place in the State competition. At nationals teams competed in a two-round competition, consisting of seven students acting as a team to demonstrate the meaning of the SkillsUSA emblems. Students spent countless hours practicing, perfecting and memorizing their scripted parts, as well as a choreographed routine.

“SkillsUSA Nationals was the highlight of my time in high school. I was given the opportunity to meet people from all across the country and see everyone strive to perform their best in their career field. I learned that no matter who you are or where you are from, career technical education gives everyone the opportunity to become the best that they can be, and I definitely saw that the whole week of Nationals!”, stated Luke Gearhart, the Secretary from the winning class of 2018. The 2018-19 Dental Assisting students have been given a new opportunity to join HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) and compete for the first time in the Dental Science and Dental Terminology competitions in addition to SkillsUSA membership and competitions.
