MVCTC Culinary Arts Students share “sweet treats” with community members at Northmont Chamber of Commerce Business EXPO

11/16/2018

The Miami Valley Career Technology Center’s Culinary Arts students attended the Northmont Chamber of Commerce Business EXPO on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at The Salem Church of God in Clayton.

The students demonstrated how to create Salted Peanut Pumpkin Cheesecake and Lemonade Shakeups. They served these items to Dayton area community members and business associations. The Culinary students and instructors also spoke with guests about the importance of career technical education and the positive impact the Miami Valley Career Technology Center has made on the community.

Culinary Arts students operate the in-school, full-service restaurant called the CULINARY CAFE, as part of their lab experience. The curriculum for the Culinary Cafe requires each student be assigned a workstation in either food production or a dining room service area. The restaurant is open to the public from the surrounding communities and MVCTC staff. The menu changes every week, while open, to give students the experience to learn about different foods, cuisines, techniques, and methods.
