MVCTC COVID Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Page

09/16/2020

Q: What if my child is exhibiting symptoms associated with COVID-19?

A:  Inform the school nurse, Ms. Lanna Anspach, if your child has COVID-19 symptoms. She can be reached at 937-854-6261 or by email at lanspach@mvctc.com

In addition, parents/caregivers should notify the school if they have been exposed to COVID-19 or if they or any member of the household have been diagnosed or who are presumed to have COVID-19. When this occurs:

  1. Your child must self-quarantine at home for 14 days. If tested and a negative result is provided to the nurse, your child may return to school earlier than 14 days.https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/if-you-are-sick/parents-caregivers.html
  2. Create a plan to pick up your child as quickly as possible if the school calls to let you know they are sick.
  3. Follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and State of Ohio health guidance to minimize the risk of contracting COVID-19.

Q: What happens if a child or MVCTC staff member becomes ill?

A: It is important that parents assess their child’s health each morning and do not send a child to school with a fever or who is not feeling well. Staff members, from bus drivers through those in school, will watch for signs of illness and send or escort any child who may exhibit illness to the clinic to be assessed by the school nurse immediately. Should a student present symptoms of COVID-19, the child will be taken to a separate area from the main clinic to be examined away from others. According to advice from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) along with Public Health Department of Dayton and Montgomery County, any student or staff member who has a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher will be sent home and must remain home until he/she is fever-free for at least 72 hours without using fever-reducing medicine (Tylenol or other), does not exhibit other symptoms, and it has been at least ten days (CDC recommendation) since your symptoms first appeared. https://www.phdmc.org/coronavirus-updates/330-what-to-do-if-you-are-sick and https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/if-you-are-sick/isolation.html

Q: Approximately how much time should my student spend to complete online assignments?

A: Currently, MVCTC is requiring students to complete an average of 175-200 minutes per week for each academic or elective class. This is roughly equivalent to the time every student would spend in academic classes during a typical week on campus. In addition, each career technical lab instructor will be using their discretion during this initial online learning time frame to assign work. Please note that if students are unable to return to campus on September 8, these time estimates will be updated and communicated via this FAQ.

Q: As a student, how can I track the online assignments that are provided?

A: Here is a simple tool that students can use to track their assignments.

Q: Where does my student go when they first arrive on MVCTC’s campus?

A: Upon arrival, students eating breakfast will report to the Student Activity Center. All other students will report directly to their career technical lab. MVCTC staff members and student ambassadors will be on hand to help new students find their lab.

Q: How do I pay student fees?

A: MVCTC’s student fees can be found on our website at www.mvctc.com/fees. Select the tab labeled “2022 Grad Individual Program Fees” and scroll down to find your program. You may begin to pay your fees beginning Monday, July 27. We ask that 50% of your total school fees be paid by the first day of school. To access the online payment system, visit www.mvctc.com/fees and select “Pay Fees (EZPay).” When making a payment, you will need a student ID number. This number can be found on your student schedule and will be emailed to you. Payment can also be made by mailing a check or money order to: MVCTC, Attn: Cashier, 6800 Hoke Road, Englewood, OH 45315. All checks should be payable to:  Miami Valley CTC. In addition to the online payment and mail options, payments can be made by phone using a credit card. We accept MasterCard, VISA, and Discover. To make a payment over the phone, please call MVCTC Cashier, Sharon Bergman, at (937) 854-6286.

Q: How do I add money to my student's lunch account?

A: Our breakfast and lunch are prepared and served by Northmont Food Service. Mrs. Pam Pearson is the Food Service Director for Northmont Schools. Should you have questions or need assistance, please contact her at 937-832-5055. You may prepay for your meals and à la carte items at www.sendmoneytoschool.com. While normally there is a nominal fee charged when using a credit card to deposit money, Northmont is providing a one-time waiver period on beginning August 10 through August 15. If you need help with meal costs, you can complete a Free and Reduced-Price School Meals Application. An application can be completed online at www.LunchApp.com or printed at www.northmontschools.net. If you do not have access to a computer, you can receive an application in the lunchroom or by calling (937) 832-5061 to have one mailed to you. If you participated in the free and reduced meal program at your current school, you will need to complete a new application in order to participate in the program at MVCTC. You are responsible for any charges incurred before your application is approved, so complete it early.

No junior students will be in attendance on August 14. Beginning on Monday, August 17 through Friday, September 4, MVCTC will be offering virtual instruction for both academic and career-technical programs. Q: When will online academic and elective assignments be provided?

A: Junior students will receive their first academic and elective assignments on Thursday, August 13 and senior students will receive their first assignments on Friday, August 14. Both junior and senior students will turn in these initial assignments on Wednesday, August 26 by 12:00 p.m. (noon).

Beginning on Wednesday, August 26 new assignments will be available by 9:00 a.m. and will be due the following Wednesday by 12:00 p.m. (noon). MVCTC will follow this schedule for the entire first semester, August 13 through December 17, 2020. Students are expected to be on campus during their assigned lab days and should work on academic/elective assignments during the other days of the week.

MVCTC will reassess the current status of the COVID-19 pandemic in late fall and hopes to make adjustments to the schedule for the second half of the school year. Until December 17, 2020, or if the pandemic worsens and we are forced to provide instruction solely online for a period of time, we will follow the aforementioned schedule. It is our goal to fully return students to campus for the second semester, if it is deemed appropriate by local and state health officials.

Q: How and when is a student be able to obtain a parking pass?

A: You may drive to school the first week without a parking permit. The parking permit application will be available in the safety office. You have the first week to complete it and turn it in. More details will be provided on the announcements.

Q: Will MVCTC provide breakfast and lunch to students?

A: Yes. Students will be seated in the cafeteria and other locations in addition to the cafeteria, if needed, so that recommended distancing requirements are met since students cannot wear a mask during this time. Students will be assigned a seat. Lunch times have been expanded to allow for a staggered release of students to lunch to avoid overcrowding in the halls and permit time for cleaning chairs and tables in between lunches. Additional lunch times have been established to ensure a minimal number of students in the lunch area at any given time. We encourage you to use the online meal payment system, so your child can avoid exchanging money with the cashier. To start the year, no hot food will be served. Students may purchase a cold boxed lunch or bring their own packed lunch. Microwaves will not be available. Students are encouraged to bring a full water bottle (clear preferred) with the student’s name written on it for identification. They can carry this with them on campus to minimize the use and touching of the water fountains. In accordance with health department guidance, water fountains on campus will be turned off with the exception of one water bottle filling station in each building. Once they arrive on campus, ONLY students eating breakfast will report to the Student Activity Center.

Q: Will MVCTC be offering preschool?

A: Preschool will not be offered first semester (August 13 through December 17, 2020). Reopening preschool for second semester will be reassessed in late fall and more information will be shared at that point in time.

Q: Will the Culinary Cafe, Pet Shop/Grooming, Auto Technology or other programs be open to the public to receive services?

A: Patronage services will not be open to the public during the first semester (August 13 through December 17, 2020). Reopening for second semester will be reassessed in late fall and more information will be shared at that point in time.

Q: My child rides the bus to MVCTC. How will transportation be handled this year?

A: By law, transportation to and from MVCTC is provided by each student’s partner district. Students may choose to drive to campus on their assigned day. Open enrolled students, who are not enrolled at one of MVCTC’s 27 partner districts, must provide their own transportation. Please check with your individual school district to understand their transportation plan for MVCTC students.

Since transportation is provided by the partner school, please follow their individual guidelines relating to social distancing and wearing a face mask/covering when riding the school bus to MVCTC. Once on MVCTC’s campus a mask will be required.

Upon arrival, students eating breakfast will report to the Student Activity Center. All other students will report directly to their career technical lab.

Q: What time should my student come to school on their assigned day?

A: It is suggested that students, who drive to school or are dropped off, arrive between 7:40 and 8:00 a.m. Classes officially begin at 8:05 a.m. and school ends at 2:30 p.m.

Q: Can I visit MVCTC once school is in session?

A: Visitors are strongly discouraged from visiting campus. With that said, and in an effort to control the spread of COVID-19, MVCTC will not be permitting outside guests into its student run preschool, restaurant, salon, dog grooming, automotive and other public services during the first semester (August 13 through December 17, 2020). Access to these services will be reassessed in late fall and more information will be shared at that point in time. Additionally, parents or other visitors will not be allowed on school premises without an appointment. District representatives are available to speak with you on the telephone at 937-837-7781 or feel free to email your question to QUESTIONS@MVCTC.COM. In the exceptional event of an in-person meeting being necessary, an appointment should be made, and social distancing guidelines will be followed throughout the meeting. Masks/face coverings will be required for all campus visitors.

Q: Is it possible to take online career-technical courses for my child’s program?

A: Based on the current status of COVID-19 in Ohio, the  instructional delivery model selected by the district provides in-person career-technical instruction with online academic offerings. Online career-technical offerings will not be available at this time.

Q: When will my junior student receive his/her laptop?

A: Laptops will be handed out to junior students in their career-technical lab on the first day of school. The students will also be instructed how to login and use the school network.
