The MVCTC Program of the week is Agriculture & Livestock Production.

What is this program all about?

Agriculture and Livestock Production teaches students about the business of Agriculture. Livestock Selection and Nutrition, Agronomy, and Ag Business are the main courses taught, along with equipment operation and maintenance to give students hands-on experiences to be successful in agriculture careers. This program gives students the opportunity to earn college credits at Sinclair Community College and the 12-point Ohio Agribusiness and Production Systems Certificate.

What would I be learning?

  • Business management for agriculture and environmental systems
  • Livestock Selection and Nutrition, Artificial Insemination and Selection
  • Agronomic Systems – Soils, Pest Management, Hazardous Materials Management, Plant Nutrition, Harvesting and Storage
  • Learn to manage a 50-acre grain farm and operate new technology in agriculture, precision guidance systems and operations, precision agriculture equipment, and software

Student Spotlights

Brianna Smith, senior in the Ag & Livestock Production program, had a busy summer. In addition to her job duties on the farm she was active at the Preble County Fair with her Horse project and helping promote the FFA. Brianna is also the 2020-2021 MVCTC Student Ambassador for Agriculture & Livestock Production.  She is a senior from Eaton.

MVCTC "What do you enjoy about attending MVCTC?"
Brianna "There are so many opportunities at MVCTC that give you a head start on your career. Along with a head start you meet so many new people that share the same interests as you."

MVCTC "What do you enjoy about your career tech program?"
Brianna "
There are so many more careers than just being a farmer or barn manager. There are lots of careers that are agricultural related and in my program we get to learn about these opportunities."

MVCTC "What has been your best experience at MVCTC?"
Brianna "
My best experience at MVCTC has been getting to meet some of my best friends while making memories and learning about our interests all in one."

MVCTC "What are your plans after graduating from MVCTC?"
Brianna "
After graduating I plan on going to college to major in Agricultural Education and to minor in Animal Science."

MVCTC "Describe how MVCTC has prepared you for your future."
Brianna "
MVCTC has prepared me for so many things in my future. One of the biggest things it has taught me is public speaking. MVCTC has helped me out of my comfort zone and taught me how to take new opportunities. MVCTC has also prepared me ready for my future by showing me more agriculture jobs and opportunities. MVCTC has also taught me how to work with people from all different backgrounds."
