MVCTC Alumni Members Reach Pinnacle of their FFA Career, the Gold Standard

Englewood, Ohio – Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Alumni, Carley Asher, Marlee Kern, and Jacob Phelps were among the 478 Ohio FFA Alumni Members that reached the Gold Standard of the FFA Organization, the American Degree.  The American Degree is the highest of honors that an FFA member can earn.

Carly Asher is a 2019 Veterinary Science Alumnus from Preble Shawnee High School.  She is currently attending Wilmington College studying Agricultural Communication and Political Science.  Marlee Kerns is a 2018 Veterinary Science Alumnus from Eaton High School. Marlee graduated from the Veterinary Technician Program at Sinclair Community College and is working as a Registered Veterinary Technician at small animal practice in the Miami Valley. Jacob Phelps is a 2019 Diesel Power Technologies Alumnus from Valley View High School. He is currently attending the University of Northwest Ohio (UNOH) and working at Bane Welker Case.

The list of “Minimum Requirements” to apply and be awarded this prestigious honor include, but are not limited to:

  • Previously obtained the State Degree
  • Participation in FFA Activities above the Chapter Level
  • 540 hours in an Agricultural Education Program
  • Record of Outstanding Leadership Abilities
  • Participated in at least 50 hours of Community Service
  • Submitted a written application for the American FFA Degree. 

The American Degree, as the highest degree achievable in the National FFA Organization.  Attaining this degree shows an FFA member’s dedication to his or her chapter and state FFA Association.  It demonstrates the effort FFA members apply toward their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE’s) and the outstanding leadership abilities and community involvement they exhibited throughout their FFA Career.  American FFA Degree recipients show promise for the future and have gone above and beyond to achieve excellence.

 

The National FFA Organization (formerly known as Future Farmers of America) provides leadership, personal growth and career success training through agricultural education. Today, there are 579,678 FFA members in grades seven through 12 who belong to one of 7,570 local FFA chapters throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
