Construction Carpentry Seniors Complete Rafter Project
Miami Valley Career Technolgy Center (MVCTC) Construction Carpentry seniors recently completed a project building roof rafters in their lab.
The Construction Carpentry program teaches students how to construct, erect, install, remodel, and repair structures and systems of wood, plywood, wallboard, and metal using carpenter’s hand tools and power tools. Students also study construction safety procedures, blueprint orientation, and construction math.
Carpentry students complete projects for their training, including the construction of small mini-barns and various construction projects on and off-campus.
Upon completing the Construction Carpentry program, many students obtain entry-level positions with residential or commercial construction companies, some of whom continue their education in construction management, engineering, architecture, or apprenticeship while continuing to work. Other students move right into supervisor roles or open their own businesses.
The MVCTC Construction Carpentry program offers National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core and Level One Carpentry industry certifications and college scholarship money to Sinclair Community College.
Students in the Construction Carpentry program can start to work their senior year as part of the MVCTC Pre-Apprenticeship program. This year 11 seniors are employed working for local contractors, earning money and valuable work experience.
