Miami Valley Career Technology Center named a finalist in $750,000 U.S. Department of Education Challenge
Adult Education MVCTC Aspire program has been named a finalist in the Rethink Adult Ed Challenge, a national competition issued by the U.S. Department of Education to advance pre-apprenticeships. Participating in this challenge gives us the opportunity to explore new learning and training experiences for adult learners.
Although apprenticeships serve as a pathway into careers across industries, many adult learners face barriers to accessing them. Pre-apprenticeships break down these barriers by equipping adult learners with the knowledge and skills they need to enter and succeed in apprenticeships — which can expand access to rewarding careers across the United States.
In November of 2020, the MVCTC Aspire program submitted a proposal creating innovative learning and training opportunities. The review panel — composed of experts in adult education, workforce policy, social services, and more — selected our team to advance to Stage 2 and compete for $750,000 in prizes. During the second stage, which runs from February – July, we will have access to expert support and digital resources to help us develop a detailed program proposal.
MVCTC Aspire was one of only three Ohio finalists selected for Stage 2. Finalists from Ohio, which also include Cincinnati Adult Education Solutions - Aspire Program and Lorain County Community College and 32 other states will enter Stage 2.To see the entire list of finalists, visit https://www.rethinkadulted.com/finalists/.
