MVCTC Junior Computer Coding & Web Applications Student Spotlight

02/24/2022

MVCTC Junior Sha'Maria Barton from Northmont is in the Computer Coding & Web Applications Program, employed as a student helper at MVCTC's Technology Department Help Desk. Sha'Maria shared, "I work alongside the Dayton Cincinnati Technology (DCTS) staff in the everyday maintenance of school laptops and other technology. I am also helping with some projects centered around the technology for the new construction project. After graduation, I plan to obtain my bachelor's degree in computer science and pursue a career in artificial intelligence research. One of my best experiences at MVCTC would be volunteering for Sophomore Career Days and getting the chance to spark some excitement and inspiration in future students interested in computer coding. Overall, however, MVCTC has given me a ton of amazing experiences, with every day that I attend school being a completely new adventure. MVCTC has allowed me to continuously challenge myself academically and experience the workforce. In addition, I have learned communication, organization, and being able to complete rigorous tasks by a set deadline under pressure. Lastly, I have also been given plenty of opportunities in terms of possible internships and chances to branch out and expand my network with the tools provided at MVCTC."

Sha'Maria was named the EBITA Department Student of the Month in December of 2021. Her instructor Melissa Goodall shared, "Sha'Maria goes above and beyond every single day. She actively challenges herself to learn MORE. She also voluntarily greets each student group to come into the classroom to tell them about the program. A real go-getter! Sha'Maria has high personal standards and constantly challenges herself to learn more. She craves knowledge and loves to help others gain understanding as well."
