MVCTC Senior Sha’Maria Barton, Recognized by Northmont Rotary
Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) senior Sha’Maria Barton was recognized as the Student of the Month at the December 2022, Northmont Rotary meeting. Sha’Maria is a senior from Northmont in the MVCTC Computer Coding & Web Applications Program.
MVCTC Superintendent, Dr. Nick Weldy, presented Sha’Maria with a plaque at the lunch meeting. Sha’Maria spoke with the Rotary about her experiences at MVCTC, and her current job working for CareSource. Her plans after graduation are to attend the University of Dayton majoring in Computer Science.
Sha’Maria was nominated for this award by his Career Technical Instructor, Melissa Goodall. Mrs. Goodall stated, “Sha'Maria has a professional, mature attitude towards education, her future, and her classmates. She has accomplished so much since being here at the MVCTC, and was recently selected to be a CareSource intern in cybersecurity, using her coding skills. She has taken four college classes during her junior year from me, and is currently taking two others, and maintaining excellent attendance and GPA. She's an MVCTC student ambassador, and mentoring three juniors in my lab. As a student, she worked for the MVCTC help desk during the school year, and during the summer, developing scripting programs and professional development that she gave to teachers in other school districts. Recently when I was ill, she stepped up to assist the subs that filled in, and led their first NASA video call with the class's NASA mentors, impressing one of my co-teachers.”
