Don Stark Recognized as 2023 Friend of MVCTC

10/09/2023

Englewood, Ohio – The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) named Don Stark recipient of the 2023 Friend of MVCTC Award.

The Friend of MVCTC honor was awarded at the annual All Advisory Dinner held on Thursday, October 5, at MVCTC. Superintendent, Dr. Nick Weldy, says, “This award is given each year to someone who is always supportive of our mission, our programs, and our students. Those nominated are the professionals who willingly give tremendous time and talent to ensure MVCTC has continued success”.

Don Stark was vital to changes to the Aviation Maintenance Technician program in the Summer of 2022. Don is retired from the United States Air Force and is an A&P Mechanic with inspection authorization. He has held a private pilot’s license and has given much of his time to MVCTC. Don also served as a program coordinator and instructor for the Sinclair College Aviation Program. Don has also volunteered his time at the Air Force Museum, Aviation Technical Education Counsel, Air Camp, and for SkillsUSA Aviation Maintenance Contests.

Don also worked on the development of Diesel Aircraft engine training standards. MVCTC and Sinclair received a large grant for the Diesel Aircraft Engine training thanks to his work. He has served on the MVCTC Aviation Maintenance Technician Advisory Committee and has been a substitute teacher for MVCTC.

MVCTC Trades and Industry Department Supervisor Blaine Heeter stated, "Don is the most conscientious and caring individual I know. He would do anything for these students, even still as a retiree, he gives countless hours of his own (unpaid) time to support our program improvement projects, cleaning and organizing, curriculum updates, and field trips."

The evening also included a district update by Dr. Weldy and the opportunity for business partners to meet with MVCTC staff.  Advisory Committee meetings allow business partners, employers, alumni, students, parents, and career-technical instructors to work together on curriculum that will help students to be successful in their chosen careers.
