Students Prepare to be leaders in FCCLA
Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) FCCLA students attended the Fall Leadership Training October 9-10, 2023, at the Heartland Conference Retreat Center in Marengo, Ohio.
Students attending included Lillian Allen (Culinary Arts/National Trail), Devonte Anderson (Culinary Arts/Northridge), Ashlyn Bailey (Culinary Arts/Miamisburg), Ryleigh Combs (Early Childhood Education/Brookville), Luke Daniel (Hospitality Services/Northmont), Hailey Haddix (Early Childhood Education/Huber Heights), Brennan MacDonald (Culinary Arts/Huber Heights), Alexis Melling (Culinary Arts/Arcanum-Butler), Ayanna New (Culinary Arts/Arcanum-Butler), Brooke Willwerth (Early Childhood Education/Miamisburg), and Melody Wolf (Culinary Arts/Tri-County North).
During the two-day conference, members and advisers across the state came to network, sharpen leadership skills, expand team building, and enhance their knowledge of FCCLA programming. All leadership activities taught valuable insights, proven to work in a “real world” environment.
Leadership Training
Activities included team-building challenges designed to create reflection and life application of interpersonal skills. Teams were led through a problem-solving obstacle or played an Ultimate Journey Race. Large group games such as basketball, volleyball, 9 square in the air, Gaga and pickleball were played. The evening concluded with a night hike.
Workshops
Various workshops were offered over the two days, including wellness activities such as yoga and mindful journaling, along with other stress & anxiety-reducing activities that can be done with FCCLA members.
Workshops on Planning Your Goals, Familiarizing Yourself with FCCLA, Communicating Like a Leader, and Unraveling the Knot were all offered to help FCCLA members become better leaders, planners, and communicators.
