Academics Department- Barbie Bungie

12/13/2023

Students in our new Mathematical Modeling and Reasoning (MMR) class recently participated in the “Barbie Bungee” activity. In this lesson, Mr. Yeagle shared, “Students work in groups of three to determine the length of a bungee cord made of rubber bands. The doll then bungee "jumps" from a predetermined height, and the students want the doll to get as close to the ground as possible without touching it. They used a linear regression equation developed in their groups to help them determine the number of rubber bands they would need for the bungee cord based on the drop distance.”

The class provides an excellent opportunity for students to earn a mathematics credit for Algebra II class. This is a new option made available by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.

Pictured are students on our second-floor and first-floor ramps observing the bungee “jump”.
