The Milton-Union MVCTC FFA Chapter has been busy competing in Career Development Events (CDE’s). Two students competed in the County Public Speaking CDE. She finished in 4th place at the District 5 contest. Tessah Perkins competed in the Extemporaneous Public Speaking CDE. In this category, the students receive a topic upon arrival and have 30 minutes to research and write a speech before presenting it to the judges.

Additionally, four of our students competed in the District 5 Agriculture Sales CDE for the first time in our chapter’s history. During the contest, Luke Jones, Tessah Perkins, and Sophia Luciano were asked to become sales representatives for a local trailer company. Lastly, all first-year students enrolled in the Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources course competed online in the state-level Greenhand Quiz CDE, where they put their FFA knowledge to the test.

Mississinawa Valley MVCTC FFA Member Takes Third at State:

The Mississinawa Valley-MVCTC FFA Chapter would like to congratulate Daniel Hartzell. Daniel placed third in the State Public Speaking contest! He participated in the Advanced Prepared Speech Category. Daniel spent the weeks leading up to the contest preparing to present his 8-minute speech to a panel of judges and then answer questions to test his knowledge on the topic. Daniel spoke about unmanned drone sprayers and their uses on today's farms. Over the past few weeks of January and February, Daniel participated in three Public Speaking contests to qualify for State. The State contest was held on March 2, 2024, at Marysville High School. Daniel took third overall in the State of Ohio! Daniel is the son of Joe and Carmen Hartzell. We are very proud of Daniel’s hard work. Congratulations Daniel!

Mississinawa Valley FFA Takes Fourth at State:

The Mississinawa Valley MVCTC-FFA Chapter placed Fourth in the State for the Farm Business Management CDE! All the Advanced Ag members took the test on February 13, 2024.  The months before the contest, the members spent their class time studying old tests using various strategies. They also took multiple practice exams to help prepare them for test day. The members had to take a 90-question test. The first half of the test consisted of general business knowledge questions. The second half was problem-solving questions directly related to owning a farm. Our top scorers out of 1040 individuals were Aldon Edger in 3rd place, Brooklynn Subert in 36th place, Diana Rodriguez Garcia in 42nd, and Daniel Hartzell in 58th place. These members went above and beyond and spent time outside of class studying and preparing for the test. Congratulations, Aldon, Brooklynn, Diana, and Daniel! Thank you, all members, for your hard work over these past few months. Congratulations MV FFA!
