MVCTC Cosmetology and Dental Assistant Students State-Bound

Englewood, Ohio – Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Cosmetology and Dental Assistant students competed at the Regional SkillsUSA competition on Saturday, March 7, at Springfield Clark Career Center.  After much hard-work and dedication, 20 MVCTC students qualified to compete at the State SkillsUSA Competition April 14-15, in Columbus, Ohio.

 

Jennifer Hinton (Cosmetology student from Brookville), earned a Gold Rating in the Esthetics Competition.  Jennifer’s model for the event was, Aja Howard (Northmont).  The Esthetics competition evaluates the contestants’ techniques and professionalism in the field of skin care. Students will be tested in four different areas: an oral skin consultation; a written exam covering the fundamentals of skin care; sanitation; skin analysis; a hands-on basic facial demonstration; and, a day time and fantasy make-up application.

 

Chelsea Hoskins (Cosmetology student form Northmont), earned a Silver Rating in the Job Skill Demonstration A Competition.  For this contest, contestants demonstrate and explain an entry-level skill used in the occupational area for which they are training. Competitors in Job Skill A must demonstrate a career objective in an occupational area that is included in one of the contest areas of the SkillsUSA Championships.

 

Morgan Ellis, (Dental Assistant student from Arcanum), earned a Gold Rating in the Job Skill Open Competition. For this contest, contestants demonstrate and explain an entry-level skill used in the occupational area for which they are training or outside of their training program. Any technical skill may be demonstrated.

 

Both the junior and senior Dental Assistant Opening and Closing teams qualified for the state competition.  This is a teamwork and oral presentation contest that evaluates teams’ understanding of the symbolic representation of the colors and assembled parts of the SkillsUSA emblem. Each team includes seven registered members in the roles of president, vice president, parliamentarian, reporter, treasurer, secretary and historian. The contest is a demonstration of the SkillsUSA Opening and Closing Ceremonies conducted according to the script and description as printed in the SkillsUSA Championships Technical Standards.

 

The senior Dental Assistant Opening and Closing Team earned a Gold Rating. The team consists of members, Christina Arnett (Preble Shawnee), Rachel Marker (Tri-Village), Megan Tincher (Tri-County North), Madison Linder (Northmont), Sophia Jones (Northmont), Sabrina Rawlins (Miamisburg), Yulissa Enciso (Wayne), and Treacie Landess (Carlisle). 

 

The Junior Dental Assistant Opening and Closing Team earned a Silver Rating.  The team consists of members, Bayley Boston (Brookville), Aubrey Zunk-Sullivan (Miamisburg), Lauren Lee (Tri-County North), Sierra Taylor (Vandalia), Haley Robinson (Franklin Monroe), Alicia Jackson (Vandalia), Taylor Tucker (Tri-County North), Alexis Eakes (Tri-County North). 

 

MVCTC is located in Clayton and serves 27 area high schools in five southwestern Ohio counties (Montgomery, Warren, Preble, Darke, and Miami).  The career technical programs at MVCTC are designed to teach students skills relevant to their career goals, while maintaining challenging academic classes and building relationships with classmates, instructors, and business leaders to help them be successful.  The opportunities available at MVCTC prepare students for the workforce and college and allow them to graduate with industry certifications and thousands of dollars toward their college education.
