Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) senior, Mariah Poling, completed the Culinary Arts program at MVCTC and was awarded a $40,000 scholarship to Johnson & Wales and will start the 13-week advanced placement program in June. After she completes the summer program, she will start the fall at Johnson & Wales as a college sophomore.  The university located in Charlotte, North Carolina, only accepts 14 people in the United States to participate in the Advanced Placement program.

Mariah’s career goals include earning her bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts and to eventually open her own restaurant.

Mariah shared, “I've always had a passion to be in the kitchen, so being able to spend almost three hours of school in the kitchen everyday was a dream! I personally learned so much better with hands-on training. Being able to see and do everything in lab was an amazing experience.”

Mariah is the daughter of Douglas and Linda Poling of Englewood.
