05/07/2015

Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) senior, Austin Hammaker, a Biotechnology student from Tri-County North, was named one of the MVCTC Class of 2015 Valedictorians.  Austin plans to attend Ohio Wesleyan in the fall as a Pre-Medicine major.  After completion of his undergraduate degree, he plans to attend medical school in order to pursue his passion to become a doctor. He would like to be a surgeon specializing in cardiothoracic surgery.

Austin shared, “Like all schools, the workload is tough and the tests are hard, but at MVCTC the faculty does an excellent job of helping you through your struggles. Coming into school, biotechnology was something that I was very interested in. My technical program has certified me in various things as well as offered irreplaceable workplace experience. My lab actually being a college course has given me a glimpse into the college world and prepared me for what is to come in my higher level education.”

Austin is the son of Dennis and Heidi Hammaker of Lewisburg. He received the National Technical Honor Society Scholarship worth $500, the President’s Merit Scholarship to University of Dayton worth $61,000, and the Branch Rickey Scholarship to Ohio Wesleyan worth $100,000.
