Outstanding MVCTC Business Students Participate in BPA National Leadership Conference
Anaheim, CA –– Top students from Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) attended the Business Professionals of America (BPA) 2015 National Leadership Conference, “Imagine, Believe, Become” in Anaheim, CA, May 6-10, 2015. MVCTC chapter members, Kelsey Glaze (Northmont); Reggie Steele (Jefferson); Spencer Haney (Brookville); Dylan Clark (West Carrollton), Kelvin Hovatter (West Carrollton); Justin Koger (Northridge); Carrington Kleptz (Northmont); and Carly Fink (Tri-County North); joined over 5,000 other conference delegates from across the nation to participate in the national level business skills competitions, workshops, general sessions, and the national officer candidate campaigns and elections.
The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) had two National Award Winners and two Top Ten finishes at the 2015 Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference.
Dylan Clark, a senior in the Computer Network Engineering program from West Carrollton, won First Place in the National Systems Administration using CISCO Contest.
Spencer Haney, a senior in the Game Programming and Web Applications program from Brookville, won First Place in the National JAVA Programming Contest.
Kelvin Hovatter, a senior in the Computer Network Engineering program from West Carrollton, placed in the Top Ten in the National Systems Administration using CISCO Contest.
Justin Koger, a senior in the Computer Repair and Technical Support program from Northridge, placed in the Top Ten in the National PC Servicing and Troubleshooting Contest.
In addition to the competitive events, MVCTC students achieved national recognition in the BPA Torch Award program. The winners were recognized during the National Honor Awards General Session on Thursday May 7, 2015, at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena. National Ambassador Torch Winners from MVCTC included:
- Carly Fink, Tri-County North High School, Business Academy Program taught by Mr. Ken Kessler.
- Bryant Fox, Ansonia High School, Business Ownership Program, taught by Mr. Dave Collins and Mrs. Mandy Watts.
- Emily Weaver, Franklin-Monroe High School, Business Academy Program, taught by Mr. Ken Kessler.
BPA is a national student organization for high school, college, and middle school students preparing for careers in business and information technology. The organization’s activities and programs complement classroom instruction by giving students practical experience through application of the skills learned at school. BPA acts as a cohesive agent in the nationwide networking of education and business and industry. BPA is contributing to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills.
For over 40-years, MVCTC has been providing career technical education for 27 partner school districts encompassing five counties in Southwest Ohio. MVCTC is dedicated to providing in-demand workforce training for youth, adults, and organizations in the Miami Valley.
