Washington D.C. – Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Allied Health Technologies senior, Anna Shockey (Brookville), attended the HOSA–Future Health Professionals’ 9th Annual Washington Leadership Academy on September 19-22, 2015.  The website HOSA.org states, “The Washington Leadership Academy taught leaders the importance of engaging with their Community, the significance of establishing and maintaining Accountability, the value of building healthy Relationships, and the benefit of exemplifying Excellence during one’s leadership journey; this year’s WLA taught leaders how to CARE.”

Anna is studying Allied Health Technologies at MVCTC and was elected last spring to the office of Ohio HOSA Treasurer for the 2015-2016 school year.

The leadership academy included 178 HOSA Leaders from all over the United States. Students had the opportunity to hear from COL Deydre Teyhen, Deputy Chief of Staff for Public Health, Office of the Surgeon General; RADM Boris Lushniak, Deputy Surgeon General of the United States; Byron Garrett, chairman of National Family Engagement Alliance; Marquita Sanders, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs (IEA); and to visit many monuments, museums, and Arlington National Cemetery.
