Franklin Monroe - MVCTC Business Satellite Program Recognized

Englewood, Ohio -- The Southwest Region Ohio School Board Association (OSBA) recognized two Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) programs at the Southwest Region Fall Conference on Thursday, October 8, 2015, at the Warren County Career Center.

 

These annual awards recognize outstanding programs that promote student achievement.  The Franklin Monroe-MVCTC Business Academy Program was recognized as an “Outstanding Multi District Impact Program” and the MVCTC Firefighter/EMS program was recognized for being selected to participate in the 2015 Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) Student Achievement Fair.

 

“Outstanding Multi District Impact Program” – Franklin Monroe – MVCTC Business Academy offers students an outstanding opportunity to earn college credits by taking business courses at Franklin Monroe High School.  A partnership has been developed with Sinclair Community College to help students start on a business degree while in high school.  Through the partnership with MVCTC and Sinclair Community College students can earn a potential of 16 semester hours of college credit hours.  This is while they are learning valuable business and computer skills vital to any future career path.   Colleges and the job market are increasingly competitive and students with an impressive high school curriculum, along with business skills and knowledge, will have a distinct advantage.   The courses allow students to learn management, communications, leadership, software applications, customer service, contracts, economics, finance and accounting.   In addition to the outstanding courses, enrolled students also participate in Business Professionals of America (BPA).  This nationwide organization provides additional opportunities for students to develop beneficial skills, compete at regional, state and national levels, and stand-out among their peers. 

 

Mrs. Carrie Wiant, Business Academy Instructor shared, “In May of 2015, at the conclusion of the first year of the Franklin Monroe – MVCTC Business Academy Program, students had the opportunity to experience various business partnerships, participate in local and state BPA events, and in addition 47 students earning a total of 254 semester hours of college credits.

 

“Student Achievement Fair Participant Recognition” – The MVCTC Firefighter/EMS program was selected by OSBA to participate in the Capital Conference to be held this November in Columbus.  MVCTC students will demonstrate skills they have learned in the program that will allow them to earn their Firefighter I and II certification.  This includes fire extinguisher trainer, properly wearing “turn-out” gear, and the forcible door simulator.

 

For over 40-years, MVCTC has been providing career technical education for 27 partner school districts encompassing five counties in Southwest Ohio.  MVCTC is dedicated to providing in-demand workforce training for youth, adults, and organizations in the Miami Valley.
