MVCTC Class of 2016 Spotlight – Cameron Bayer

03/18/2016

Englewood, Ohio – Cameron Bayer is a senior in the Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Electrical Trades program.  Thanks to his grades and attendance, Cameron qualified to participate in the MVCTC Apprenticeship Program this year allowing him to work part-time at Bayer Masonry.

The MVCTC Apprenticeship Program allows students to work two weeks on the job for a business partner and then spend two weeks at MVCTC completing their required academic work to ensure they receive their high school diploma.  Students accepted into the apprenticeship program need to have the grades and attendance to show they can handle the rigor and dedication this type of schedule requires.

Cameron was a home-schooled student, until enrolling at MVCTC.  He shared, “All of my life I have been home-schooled, where all I had is my brothers and sister for company.  While here at MVCTC, I made friends that have made my experience better.”

While attending MVCTC, Cameron was a Student Ambassador, SkillsUSA contest participant, and a 2016 National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) inductee.  Upon graduation in May, Cameron will have earned his National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Certification and the Tech Prep Scholarship to continue his education at Sinclair Community College. Cameron plans to continue working for the family business and hopes to help it grow.

Cameron shared, “My favorite thing about MVCTC is the great opportunities provided to students, such as the apprenticeship program. Also, being able to  learn a career while still in high school.”

Cameron is the son of Gary and Lora Bayer of Brookville.

For over 40-years, MVCTC has been providing career technical education for 27 partner school districts encompassing five counties in Southwest Ohio.  MVCTC is dedicated to providing in-demand workforce training for youth, adults, and organizations in the Miami Valley.
