MVCTC SkillsUSA Members Qualify for National SkillsUSA Competition

Columbus, Ohio -- Members of the Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) SkillsUSA chapter competed at the Ohio SkillsUSA Contest in Columbus, Ohio on April 26-27, 2016.  The State Contest, located at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, brought together thousands of SkillsUSA students from all over the state to compete in everything from Advertising Design to Welding.

 

The SkillsUSA Ohio championship consists of 81 Technical and Leadership contests. Participants were challenged to complete a project in their area of technical training within a specified time while being scored by a panel of judges from business, industry, and education. Top state qualifiers earned a chance to compete in the SkillsUSA championships in Louisville, KY, in June for national honors.

  • Opening & Closing Team ContestDental Assistant Junior Team of Morgan Bell (Miamisburg), Chelcee Carroll (Arcanum), Madison Cox (Tippecanoe), Jaycee Groves (Carlisle), Richard Huynh (Northridge), Taylor Nuse (Tri-County North), and Linley Spoonmore (Brookville)

 

Silver – Second Place

  • Adult Education Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning Contest – Brandon Davis (Adult Education HVAC/Troy)
  • Advertising Design Contest – Erica Bell (Graphic Commercial Art/Miamisburg)
  • Heavy Equipment Operator Contest – Randy Ellish (Heavy Equipment Operator/Bethel)
  • Photography Contest – Andrea Nisius (Graphic Commercial Photography/Tri-County North)
  • Telecommunication Contest – Derek Stafford (Electrical Trades/Northridge)

 

Bronze – Third Place

  • Job Skill Demo Contest - Madeline Durham (Dental Assistant/Eaton)
  • Precision Machining Contest – Nathan Virag (Precision Machining/Brookville)
  • Team Works Team – Cameron Bayer (Electrical Trades/Tri-County North), Luke Stoner (Construction Carpentry/Twin Valley South), Arie Thumser (Construction Carpentry/Bethel), and Seth Wright (HVAC/Eaton)

 

During the State of Ohio SkillsUSA Conference, Drew Ewing (Graphic Commercial Art/Wayne) was elected as the State SkillsUSA Secretary for the 2016-2017 school year.
