Program Activities

  • This program is designed for students with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • Learn about hospitality in hotels and resorts, elder care support services, and dietary support services
  • This program teaches students life management skills
Hospitality Services is a job-training program designed for students with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Students gain skills at work sites related to the hospitality industry. Job sites include Hampton Inn, Maria Joseph Living Care Center, Shiloh House Adult Daycare Center, Golden Corral, Holiday Inn, Miami Valley Hospital, and Sinclair Community College - Aramark Catering.

Students in the Hospitality Services program complete projects in safety and sanitation, fire safety, First Aid/CPR and banquet set-up. They also learn to prepare individual dishes and meals, plan a party, and plan activities for elderly participation. Students are required to participate in and complete an FCCLA "Power of One" project and compete in FCCLA Skill Events.

The U.S. Department of Labor estimates that between 2004 and 2014, the Hospitality Industry is expected to add 17 percent in wage and salary employment. Within the industry, the food services and drinking places are expected to increase by 16 percent. More than 21 percent of workers in these establishments are ages 16 to 19. The diverse range of activities offered by this industry provide excellent job opportunities and jobs are plentiful for first-time job seekers. Training for advancement is available through industry-sponsored seminars; short-term, subject-specific certificate programs; or associate and bachelor's degree programs in management.

Students in the Hospitality Services program learn many employability and hospitality skills to prepare them for the work world. A few of our students go on after graduation to local post-secondary programs, while most students go directly into careers related to hospitality.
