Science Technology Engineering and Math

MVCTC has defined the word “Engineering” in STEM as a verb, not a noun. This allows us to develop curriculum that provides more rigorous math and science knowledge for all students, not just those considered academically high achievers.

MVCTC has integrated academic and career technical disciplines using the concept of Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) to present STEM to our students. IBL is an instructional delivery system used by instructors to:

Help ensure transferability of STEM knowledge to real life scenarios
Initiate students to ask an “essential question” which revolves around current issues in business or industry related to the students career field
Require students to become problem solvers
Connect to the students world

Professional Development
Dedicated time to develop and collaborate on STEM lessons
STEM- L added the “Literacy” portion, which requires students to present their findings orally and in writing
