MVCTC FFA Students Participated in Equine Management CDE

Englewood, Ohio – Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Veterinary Science students participated in the FFA Equine Management Career Development Event (CDE) during the 62nd Annual Wilmington College Aggies Judging Contest. The contest was on Wednesday, March 4th, 2020, in Springfield, Ohio.  

 

The Equine Management CDE is an educational activity designed as a practical method of teaching students current horse evaluation and selection techniques in addition to developing management skills necessary for success in the equine industry.  

 

The top four team members' scores added together to create the Equine Team Score. The MVCTC team placed 4th overall out of 59 teams that competed for the day. The top four team members were all from Veterinary Science. They included: 

  • Jayla Denlinger (Twin Valley South)
  • Keara Knepshield (Franklin Monroe)
  • Lily Preston (Tri-Village)
  • Alexa Garnett (Preble Shawnee)
  •  

The students completed an examination of 50 questions quizzing the students on their general equine knowledge. Students completed an Identification test on tack, plants, and feeds. Students also placed four classes of Live Horses, which included Performance Halter, Hunter Under Saddle, Western Horsemanship, and Ranch Pleasure. The students were responsible for placing a class of hay also.  

 

Agricultural Education Career Development Events (CDEs) are educational activities organized and conducted by the Ohio Department of Education, Office of Career-Technical Education, Agricultural Education Service. They assess student competence in business and industry verified occupational skills, as detailed in the Agricultural and Environmental Content Standards. CDE's are a motivating force that stimulates occupational interests in, and personal development of high school students enrolled in agricultural education programs.
